PARAÍBA COASTAL BASINS CANAL
The East Branch of the São Francisco River Water Transfer Project will enable the Paraiba river, the main river in the state of the same name, to flow throughout the year, a project that will contribute to the socioeconomic development of a region still largely dependent on agriculture. To this end, complementary works to the transfer system need to be implemented, such as the Acauã-Araçagi canal, which will draw water from the Paraíba river and supply it to a region with a population of 200,000 inhabitants who live in the surrounding cities. In addition, the canal is expected to increase the outflow of the coastal water basins that irrigate the areas which produce sugarcane, one of the state’s main agricultural crops. TPF Engineering was commissioned by the government of Paraíba to prepare the detailed design for the water transport system.
